Storyboard Reviews
I enjoy reading fiction, a good drama with strong characters and biographies of illustrators. I also like to draw and I draw something every day when possible. The usual question arose, what would I draw? As my main interest is narrative I began to draw a short synopsis, review of books I had read.
During lockdown I did quite a lot of walking and listening to audio books. During that time, about a year I read and listened to over seventy books. Now I don’t listen to a book on my walk and prefer to look at the surroundings and enjoy my thoughts. I tended to forget the characters and/ or plot of some books so I wrote a quick review as I moved on from one book to the next. This was when I added a sketch to the written review, synopsis of the story. I then chose short stories. The drawings are primitive , misshapen, often quirky, created mainly from my imagination. A problem arose, I couldn’t take these storyboards any further because of the copyright laws. So I decided that I could publish these as a blog without a text.. So here are examples of my reviews visually. By drawing every day I am hoping that my drawing and visual memory improve. If I overstep the copyright law I apologise, it is unintentional and please let me know.
The final pages are coming soon. A clue to the story is – a secret affair.
- Flappy has a secret affair
- The guests arrive
- Flappy sits next to Charles
- The Tango- The secret is revealed
- The Golf club
- Life goes on. New residents arrive.
Here is another storyboard, by Somerset Maughn, again his books are inside copyright so these early day drawings can go no further. I just enjoy drawing daily and using words, nattative as the starting point. I’m also going to start illustrating my own stories and take the storyboards onto the next stage.
